In the heart of Venice - History - Ristorante da Mario alla Fava

Getting lost following the alleys, plazas and squares of Venice in search of special views is a wonderful experience.

Let yourself be captured by the enchanting atmosphere of typical Venetian restaurants and spend a splendid time in good company savoring traditional dishes of Venetian cuisine.

In the heart of Venice, a stone’s throw from the Church of S. Maria della Consolazione or “Della Fava”, you will find the restaurant “Da Mario alla Fava”, its name taken from the nearby church.
The restaurant first opened its doors in 1960, when Mario Bonavita decided to make his dream come true: opening a restaurant full of atmosphere for rediscovering true Venetian cooking; a cuisine at that time forgotten by the locals, neglected by journalists and disregarded by foreign gourmets and chefs.

The family atmosphere and outstanding quality of the dishes prepared soon meant that “Da Mario alla Fava” became one of Venice’s most famous restaurants: one of the walls is lined with hundreds of photographs of famous celebrities who have enjoyed Da Mario alla Fava, and the restaurant, even with continuous renovations over the year,s maintains a “vintage” atmosphere as it was in the '60s.

Recalling Mario Bonavita's motto of those years which seems to still ring through the air: "If you are sad and bored with life, you will rediscover joy at Da Mario alla Fava"

The art of a quality restaurant is passed down from father to son. Now it is the turn for Mario, Guido and Luca, who continue with the same passion in running the restaurant that they inherited from their father. Guido and Luca are the harshest “critics” of their work as restaurateurs, continuously striving for a quality product and never tired of reaching towards the goal of satisfying their clients.

The “gallery” of famous personalities that have enjoyed the restaurant is crowded with numerous photographs, displayed on the walls and dividing screens throughout the restaurant: photos often taken with then owner Mario Bonavita.

The ambiance from that period has not been lost: familiar but attentive, the right context for enjoying the seasonal selections, with the creativity enjoyed by today's tastes, but rooted solidly in yesterday's traditions.
